Privacy Policy
How Nautical Solver handles browser-side calculator data, privacy-focused analytics, technical information, and website security.
Overview
Nautical Solver respects user privacy and aims to minimize unnecessary collection of personal information wherever reasonably possible.
Nautical Solver is a browser-based naval architecture and marine engineering platform providing calculators, engineering utilities, reference material, and technical articles related to ship design, resistance, propulsion, stability, fuel consumption, emissions, and related marine engineering topics.
Unlike many account-based platforms, Nautical Solver generally operates without requiring user registration, account creation, or direct submission of personal profile information.
Information we do not intentionally request
Nautical Solver does not intentionally request or require users to submit:
- Personal profiles
- Passwords or login credentials
- Payment card information
- Government-issued identification
- Personal engineering project files
- Private vessel operational records
Most calculators and engineering tools can be used directly within the browser without creating an account or submitting personal information.
Technical information and server logs
Like most websites, Nautical Solver and the providers supporting its hosting, content delivery, and security may process technical request information when visitors access the site.
This information may include:
- IP address
- Browser, device, and operating system information
- Requested pages and basic request information
- Access time
- Security and diagnostic information
This processing supports ordinary website delivery, content distribution, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, security, and service reliability. It is separate from the aggregate Cloudflare Web Analytics service described below.
Calculator inputs and local browser storage
Most Nautical Solver calculators operate locally within the user's browser. Where calculations are performed entirely within the browser, calculator inputs generally are not intentionally uploaded to Nautical Solver servers.
Certain calculators or interface components may use browser storage such
as localStorage or sessionStorage to preserve:
- Calculator input values
- Recent engineering parameters
- Interface preferences
- Usability-related settings
Depending on the calculator or feature:
- Stored values may remain only on the user's device
- Browser-side calculations may be completed without sending inputs to Nautical Solver servers
- Users may clear browser storage at any time through browser settings
Browser storage is primarily used to improve usability and reduce the need for repeatedly entering engineering parameters during navigation or page refreshes.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Nautical Solver uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate website usage and technical performance. This helps identify useful calculators and articles, improve navigation, and monitor how well the website performs overall.
Aggregate reporting may include information such as:
- Page views and visits
- Popular pages
- Referring sources
- Country- or region-level traffic information
- Device and browser categories
- Website performance and Core Web Vitals information
Cloudflare Web Analytics is designed as privacy-focused aggregate
analytics. It does not use analytics cookies or localStorage
for analytics tracking and does not fingerprint individual visitors for
analytics. Nautical Solver uses this information to understand overall
website usage, not to create advertising profiles of individual visitors.
The website displays a brief informational analytics notice for transparency. This notice is not a consent banner and does not enable or disable analytics based on a visitor response.
Nautical Solver does not currently use behavioral advertising or advertising tracking technologies.
Cookies and local browser storage
Nautical Solver does not currently use analytics cookies or advertising cookies. Infrastructure and security providers such as Cloudflare may, where required, use strictly necessary technologies for security, abuse prevention, or reliable website operation.
Some calculators and interface features may use localStorage
or sessionStorage locally in the visitor's browser to preserve
calculator inputs, interface settings, or usability-related information.
The analytics information banner uses sessionStorage only to
remember that it has already been displayed during the current browser
session. This state is not an analytics identifier and is not used to
track visitors across browsing sessions.
Visitors can clear locally stored website data through their browser settings.
Exported files and generated outputs
Some Nautical Solver calculators allow users to generate exports such as:
- PDF reports
- PNG images
- Charts or diagrams
- Engineering calculation summaries
In many cases, these files are generated locally within the user's own browser environment and saved directly to the user's device without being uploaded to Nautical Solver servers.
Third-party services and infrastructure
Nautical Solver relies on or may use third-party services such as:
- Cloudflare infrastructure, content delivery, security, and Web Analytics
- Web hosting infrastructure
- Externally hosted software libraries where applicable
- External websites or services linked from Nautical Solver
The role and information handled by each provider depends on the service involved. Third-party providers operate under their own privacy, security, and service policies where applicable.
External links
Nautical Solver may contain links to external websites, documentation, services, or resources. Nautical Solver is not responsible for the content, security, availability, or privacy practices of third-party websites. Users should review the privacy policies of any external services they access.
Data retention
Nautical Solver generally seeks to minimize unnecessary retention of personal information.
Retention depends on the type of information and the system involved:
localStoragemay remain on the user's device until the website, browser, or user removes itsessionStoragegenerally remains until the browser session ends or it is otherwise cleared- Infrastructure and security logs may be retained according to operational, security, legal, and provider requirements
- Analytics information is handled according to the applicable Cloudflare Web Analytics service practices
Nautical Solver does not specify fixed retention periods where those periods are controlled by a visitor's browser or an infrastructure provider.
Children's privacy
Nautical Solver is intended for a general audience interested in naval architecture, engineering, education, and marine technology.
Nautical Solver does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by applicable law. If you believe that personal information from a child has been unintentionally processed, please contact us so appropriate steps may be taken.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights related to personal data, including rights to:
- Access information
- Request correction
- Request deletion
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Exercise data portability or withdraw consent where applicable
The rights available depend on the visitor's jurisdiction, the nature of any processing, and whether personal data relating to that individual is actually processed. Requests may be sent to info@nauticalsolver.com.
